School life

Specialisms

As a specialist Music and Mathematics school, provision for talented musicians and mathematicians is outstanding. Every year, both departments achieve excellent examination results at GCSE and A Level.

Music

Music is at the heart of our school and our Key Stage 3 curriculum is designed to inspire every pupil. They explore a wide range of musical styles and develop keyboard and instrumental skills in class. For those keen to go further, we offer an extensive programme of paid-for music lessons before, during, and after school. Beyond the classroom, pupils and students enjoy a rich musical life with Concert Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Choir, and Musical Theatre Club. They take part in trips to West End theatres, ENO, and the Royal Opera House, with exciting opportunities to perform at the Royal Festival Hall and on our annual music tour abroad. Recent destinations have included Lake Garda, Bruges, Tuscany, Malta, and Salzburg.

Many students continue to GCSE, A Level, or our BTEC in Digital Music Production. For those pursuing music at university or conservatoire, our experienced mentors provide expert guidance. Our partnership with Crown Lane Studio, an award-winning recording studio in south-west London, gives students hands-on experience in professional music production.

We have been accredited with the Music Mark which recognises the excellent quality of Music education provided to pupils and Sixth Formers.

Specialist Music Places (Music Scholars)
As one of the few state specialist music schools in the country, we are passionate about nurturing musical talent at every level. Each year, we offer nine Foundation and nine Open places to Year 7 children who show the aptitude and potential to thrive in our specialist music programme. Mathematics

We are proud to be a Secondary Beacon School for the London South West Maths Hub, part of a national network of 37 Hubs working together to enhance maths education. As a hub school, we provide outstanding professional development for our Maths department and regularly host ‘Open Days,’ where staff from other schools visit to observe best practice in action.

In the classroom, we use the Shanghai Maths Mastery approach, ensuring mathematical concepts are explored methodically and in depth. This proven teaching style builds a strong, lasting understanding of Maths, giving pupils the skills and confidence to apply their learning in new and challenging ways.
