Our Commitment to Sustainability

At Saint Cecilia’s, we are serious about reducing our environmental impact. We are proud to be one of the few local academies to have completed a Climate Action Plan ahead of the Government’s 2026 deadline, working in partnership with the charity Let’s Go Zero. This plan sets out clear, practical steps to make our school more sustainable, from improving energy efficiency to reducing waste through recycling education programmes for staff and children in school.

Our efforts have already been recognised nationally. We were a finalist in the Green Building category at the Church Times Green Church Awards 2024, placing second out of 132 entries and receiving a ‘Highly Commended’ award. This acknowledges our ongoing work to reduce our environmental impact and set an example for others.

Our Climate Action Plan will drive the school’s environmental strategy for this academic year. We have achieved much of this plan already:

  • Completed a full carbon footprint analysis to provide a clear benchmark for progress

  • Installed two air source heat pumps, with two more planned for the summer

  • Upgraded all lighting to energy-efficient LED across the school

  • Fitted 99 solar panels to cut electricity consumption

  • Introduced a food waste recycling scheme

  • Increased biodiversity with bat boxes, bird boxes and water butts

  • Supporting local primary schools (St Mary’s Putney and St Michael’s Southfields) in developing their own sustainability plans.

This is an ongoing commitment; we will continue working to make Saint Cecilia’s a greener, more environmentally responsible school.
