School life
Extra-curriculum
Our guiding Bible passage, ‘I came so that you may have life, and have it abundantly’ (John 10:10), inspires us to give every child opportunities to flourish — through our curriculum, extra-curricular activities and leadership roles — helping them grow in confidence and reach their full potential.

Clubs
At Saint Cecilia’s, we’re proud to offer a wide range of free extra-curricular clubs, from sports and music to academic support and hobbies. Run by our staff, these clubs enrich school life, and pupils are encouraged to take part in at least two each week.Click here for the latest clubs list.

All pupils in school are provided with challenging and thought-provoking lessons to give them the opportunity to develop their academic strengths. We have an extensive Enrichment Programme for our More Able pupils and students which includes a wide variety of activities, including teacher-led lectures/workshops, masterclasses, competitions and university visits. While these sessions are designed for our more able students/pupils, they are open to everyone and we encourage everyone to take part.

We organise a range of day and residential trips in the UK and abroad, enriching learning with vibrant experiences. Pupils visit London museums and theatres, take geography field trips and travel to France and Spain for MFL. Every other year, there's a European skiing trip, while our music groups tour Europe each summer. Sixth Form students can also join Operation Wallacea’s ecological expeditions in Africa or South America.
Most day trips are free, though some may have a small charge for workshops or entry fees. Residential trips are, by their nature, more costly but bursaries and financial support are available for those who need assistance.

Pupils can take formal music tuition for grade exams with our peripatetic teachers or follow the LAMDA programme for exams in performance and public speaking. Our musicians perform year-round, with our Gold Award-winning Concert Band playing at venues like Birmingham Symphony Hall, Fairfield Halls and the Wimbledon Championships. Our annual whole school production - in recent years ‘Guys and Dolls’, ‘Shrek the Musical’ and ‘Fame Jr’- is always a sell-out.

We are a sporty school with strong rugby, netball, athletics and football teams competing in inter-school friendlies and excelling in regional and national competitions. Our pupils and students have won awards in athletics, indoor athletics, rugby and Roundnet, and each year, our athletics teams represent Wandsworth at the London Games. In 2024, we were the highest-ranked state school in the Wandsworth Athletics Championships, and Saint Cecilia’s pupils were selected to represent London in English Schools cross-country and athletics.
Beyond school, pupils have excelled in cricket, rowing, fencing and windsurfing. We have strong ties with the All England Lawn Tennis Club, with many pupils and students selected as ball boys and ball girls for Wimbledon.
Everyone takes part in our annual Sports Day and we celebrate our talented young sports men and women in an annual Sports Awards evening.

The role of Prefect is one of responsibility and leadership. Prefects, selected from all year groups, act as role models, developing leadership skills and influencing school life. They represent the school at key events, such as Open Evenings and music performances, and carry out regular duties during break times to ensure the smooth running of the school. In recognition of their status at the school, Prefects wear a burgundy tie, making them easily identifiable to pupils and staff.
Saint Cecilia’s is committed to listening to pupils, offering initiatives like our Junior Leadership Team. Two representatives from each year group meet regularly with the Leadership Team, giving pupils and students a voice in important school decisions. Last year, the idea to offer free sanitary products came from the Junior Leadership Team, who also contributed to selecting the new catering company and changes to uniform and rewards policies.

Each house offers pupils the chance to lead projects and work with senior staff on initiatives. House Captains support House Leaders with competitions and manage house activities. Sports Captains help with events like Sports Day, while Charity Captains coordinate fundraising for the school’s annual charity. Eco Captains collaborate with their House Leader to improve the school’s green credentials. Applications open at the start of the school year and are available to all pupils.

Saint Cecilia’s is a proud supporter of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards, offering pupils the chance to complete the Bronze Award in Year 9 and Silver in Year 10. For Sixth Form students, we provide an ‘Open Offer’ for the Gold Award, supporting them to plan and run their own activities. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards help bring out the best in young people in a non-competitive setting. The skills they gain are valued by employers and will benefit them throughout their careers.
-
Many of our pupils and students receive Jack Petchey Awards each year for their community endeavours. Our pupils represent the school in the Speak Out Challenge, often winning awards for their public speaking.
-
We are a partner of Citizens UK, the UK’s biggest, most diverse and most effective people-powered alliance which brings everyday people and local organisations together to build a better, fairer society. Pupils and students help organise events designed to spark ideas and inspire advocacy in our local community and ensuring that their voices are at the heart of the conversation.

Pupils and students are encouraged to live out our Christian ethos through charitable activities. Our school has a sponsored charity and initiatives including fun runs, our inter-house Bake Off, foodbank collections and non-uniform days raise valuable funds for good causes.
