Admissions

We welcome applications from all members of the community and ask all parents/carers and applicants to respect the Christian ethos of our school and recognise its importance to our community.

Saint Cecilia’s participates in the co-ordinated admission scheme of Wandsworth Council. The school also adheres to the common timetable for admissions, including the arrangements for dealing with applications received after the closing date as set out in Wandsworth Council’s scheme.

Year 7: places available

Saint Cecilia’s will admit 150 pupils to Year 7. Places are allocated as follows:

  • 80 Foundation places will be offered to children who themselves or whose parents/carers are practising members of a Christian church.

  • 70 Open places will be offered to children irrespective of their religious background.

  • 8 Foundation and 7 Open places will be offered to children who demonstrate that they have the aptitude to benefit from a specialist course in music.

Applicants must also complete their home local authority’s Common Application Form. More information here

Step 2

Applicants who wish to be considered for Foundation and/or Specialist Music places, must also complete the supplementary information form(s).  These forms are included within the “Choose a Wandsworth School booklet” and are available below.

These forms must be returned to our school.

Step 3

If you are applying for a Foundation place, we will write to the minister or priest of your church for a reference and to confirm that you meet the criteria. Please note that attendance of twice a month for at least two years is required to meet the Foundation criteria.

Open places will be offered to children living nearest to the school using a straight line measurement.

Step 4

Applicants who have applied for a Specialist Music Place will be invited to take a specialist music aptitude test at the school in the Autumn term.

Step 5

Outcome letters are sent to all applicants by Wandsworth Council – Spring term (normally on 1st March).

Mid-year admissions

Mid-year applications can be made at any time throughout the year, but it should be noted that this will generally result in being placed on the waiting list as vacancies rarely arise. When a vacancy does arise, the applicant who best meets the Governing Body’s admissions criteria will be offered the place, regardless of how long she or he has been on the waiting list.

Appeal arrangements

If you have not been offered a place at Saint Cecilia’s the law entitles you to appeal against that decision to an Independent Appeal Panel. This panel is completely independent of the school and the Local Authority. The appeals are held at the school.

If you wish to appeal, please request a form via this link. You should include any evidence or supporting material with your appeal form and you MUST give the grounds for your appeal at the time you lodge your appeal form. Your appeal form will not be accepted unless you state the grounds for your appeal. You may appeal for more than one school.
