Everest and Beyond – author visits Saint Cecilia’s

Matt Dickinson, author, has recently visited us to deliver three different talks to pupils in Years 7 -11, entitled Human and Physical Geography, Everest and Beyond and Both Sides of the Story.

The author spoke about his travels, adventures, life experiences and how they have influenced his writing. The visit ended with a creative writing workshop in the school Library – the children also had the opportunity to meet Matt, ask questions and purchase signed copies of his books ‘Everest Files’, ‘North Face’, ‘Killer Storm’ and ‘Lie Kill Way Away’.

A Year 8 pupil commented: “Matt’s talk has inspired me to take any challenges that get thrown at me!”. Ms Derby, Librarian, said: “Matt was in school all day and gave three fascinating talks for over 500 students. The range of themes gave huge variety and awareness, and the children loved the day.”

As well as being an author, Matt is also an award winning Director/Cameraman for the National Geographic TV, Discovery Channel and the BBC.  During his action-packed career he has worked with some of the great characters from the world of adventure: Bear Grylls, Judy Leden and Brian Blessed. He has filmed on Everest’s summit, in Antarctica, Greenland, Alaska and on top of the highest live volcano in the world.
